Das hat IMHO nichts mit SSL zu tun. Er weiss nicht, welcher Smarthost für
die Absenderadresse ... at t-online.de zuständig ist. 

Kontrolliere mal die Smarthost-Einstellungen.

Hat er die Mails nun doch versandt, oder gammeln die noch
in /var/spool/exim/input rum?
