ich gehe mal davon aus, dass Du die Laufzeit von curl meinst.

/usr/bin/curl -m5 -w "\nTime: %{time_total} DNS time: %{time_namelookup} 
Redirect time: %{time_redirect}\n" [Servername]

liefert bei aktivem Server:
Time: 0.035 DNS time: 0.028 Redirect time: 0.000

wenn inaktiv:
Time: 0.028 DNS time: 0.028 Redirect time: 0.000
curl: (7) Failed connect to [Servername]:80; No route to host
