[Eisfair] Probleme mit MySQL

Hallo,
nach einer kompletten Neuinstallation (Danke an Marcus, Thomas, Fabian 
sowie alle anderen hier) gehen die Probleme mit MySQL weiter. ;-)

wenn ich z.b. eine Datenbank anlegen will:

EIS4 # mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket 
'/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)

oder

eis4 # mysqladmin -u root oldpassword newpassword
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket 
'/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)'
Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: 
'/run/mysql/mysql.sock' exists!

Auch in den MySQL-Tools über das Setup bei Punkt: List User kommt Folgendes:

Select (1-9, ENTER=Return, 0=Exit)? 1

MySQL Server 'root' password is required.
Please set the root password.

Press ENTER to continue


Wo kann ich suchen, bzw. nachlesen oder was kann ich nachliefern?

Seltsam ist, das es schon mal funktionierte, aber neuerdings bringt eine 
Applikation den Fehler:

Database error

Connection with ADOdb::PConnect(localhost:3306, egroupware, $Password, 
egroupware) failed.

Maybe you not created a database for EGroupware yet.
