Ich habe Deinen Befehl " nc -zv -w30 pop.gmx.net 995 " anstatt mit nc 
mal mit netcat ausprobiert.  So gehts jedenfalls nicht.  Also dürfte 
auch ein einfaches verlinken nichts bringen.

root at eisfair:~# netcat -zv -w30 pop.gmx.net 995
netcat: invalid option -- z
