kann das eventuell das Problem sein:

Beim 4.9.261 kommt die Meldung "The initial RAM disk will be loaded in
the high memory above 16M."
Die Meldung kommt bei 3.16.74 nicht!

Und laut Kernel Meldung ist kein HighMem da:
0MB HIGHMEM available.
256MB LOWMEM available.
